About the Campaign
CONCERN believes that all forms of child exploitation can be completely abolished and that the empowerment of underprivileged children and working children in particular is a dire necessity. Through community awareness and different child-related development activities, these affected children can become self-reliant and independent. The mission of CONCERN is to facilitate a process that helps to protect the Rights of the Child in general, and in particular it acts to abolish all sorts of exploitation of children by supporting underprivileged children and their families. It also works to achieve a better social and natural environment in which they live.
CONCERN has been focusing its program on hazardous sectors of child labors like child-porters, restaurant children, stone quarry children, brick kiln children, children in mechanic works and highway hawkers. Many children working in these sectors are working in abusive, exploitative and hazardous conditions. CONCERN-Nepal, dedicated to protection of rights of children, has been advocating UN Convention on the Rights of Children since it’s’ inception in 1993. CONCERN basically focuses on eradication of child labor and providing working children an alternative option for their survival. CONCERN is a leading organization in conducting researches on the issue of child labor. Through its’ extensive national researches created innovative approaches for providing assistance to children and their families. CONCERN-Nepal has successfully reached over 3,500 children working in stone quarry, 7,000 in brick kilns, 3,000 in tea shops, 750 in child portaging, 370 in child mechanics, in the past 11 years facilitating alternative options such as daycare center services, non-formal education classes, vocational training support, income generation alternatives, community mobilization, and Children’s participation.
The protection of a child rights, prevention of social and natural environment is of utmost importance. Destitute and deprived children can be freed from exploitation through activities of advocacy, social support, and educational support services. Children, especially child labourers, need to be self-reliance for their future economic sustainability, which can be attained through different specialized child development activities.
Where will the funds go?
The raised fund will be used for school enrollment purpose, which make sure for them not to get involved in hazardous work such as brick kilns, portaging, teashops, etc. The enrollment cost includes nominal school fee, exam fee, stationery, uniform, shoe, etc.
